![]() I think what I'm may be trying to say with a whole bunch of extra words is that a review of Studio from April may not be super helpful here at the end of June.Īpologies if I've offended, not my intention. Or, if there are relevant discussions comparing each of the products I'd really like to read them, so if anyone has links, please post them. I'd love to see some current discussion on this topic (besides the post I just made ). In my case, I'm leaning towards some of the Pro features of Studio, in others, I still prefer the Topaz plug-ins and then there's a few cases where I haven't made up my mind. And like me, the people who are using Pro features, are actually still testing and learning. Studio is still new enough (and still undergoing development) that I haven't found a lot of current information on it, searching anywhere. If I really dig, I can find current answers, but not always. But there is one HUGE problem: the vast majority of results are not current, some going back years. So I've relied heavily on internet searches and fora such as this one. My first PP program was FastStone, so in the realm of "real" PP'ing, I'm still an ultra-newbie. I've only been involved with digital photography and image processing since 2013. (And I do love mixing metaphors!) But in this case, I have to argue against this. I really don't like butting in, and usually bite my tonque when I feel the urge. Search First, ask your questions (if needed) after. Have you searched this forum or other forums yet? These have been discussed many times in the past, so your question has probably also been answered. (And, after all, isn't this really all about just me? ) I don't know if that helps you or answers your questions, but it helped me clarify my usage preferences. So: Precision Contrast and HSL Color Tuning are definitly supplanting Adjust and Clarity DeNoise trumps Studio's efforts for problem images I never found a way to satisfactorily reduce haze with the other Topaz plug-ins, so Studio's DeHaze may be my go-to for those corrections Lens Effects will still be used, just not exclusively and Detail (hadn't forgotten it!) might still be useful for extra processing of digital images (not prints). (But to be honest, since I mainly print my images, I've started relying on Qimage Ultimate for any print sharpening, with my old eyes, it does a better job than I do.) So InFocus probably won't be used much except as noted above. I'm currently liking the Sharpen filter, especially that i can run it twice if needed (once for USM, once for Lens Deblur). I can see using both, leaning towards Lens Effects. I'm still playing with Focal Blur in Studio, but Topaz Lens Effects might have additional tweaks not available in Focal Blur. If you don't have any other dehaze filter, I really like the one in Studio, I find it's more than good enough. I haven't made up my mind on which dehaze filter I prefer, the one in Affinity or the one in Studio. I basically use Topaz Studio as a plug-in with Affinity Photo for Windows (also as a "helper" program in the old Zoner Photo Studio 18). Actually, I'm pretty sure I'll lean towards DeNoise for anything other than minor noise correction. But for tweaking camera images (raw and/or JPEG), I rely on either the camera manufacturers software (Nikon ViewNX2 & Olympus OV3) for corrections, or develop them in Affinity Photo for Windows. ![]() Those two alone make the Pro filters worthwhile.ĭeNoise and InFocus are still useful for problem images (mostly for a long-term scanning project). ![]() Precision Contrast plus HSL Color Tuning in the Pro filters have essentially replaced Adjust and Clarity for me. I could never get Adjust & Clarity to look right except for contrast, and I learned to guestimate the colors. I use an off-the-shelf HP laptop, not much in the way of color management, but I have it so that the on-screen image is close-enough to the printed output (relative to colors). Plus I was waiting for photoFXlab v2.0 - still waiting.īut for myself, there was a serious problem with the image tweaking filters (Adjust, Clarity). For one thing, I have the complete Topaz Collection, and the Pro features in Studio felt like a betrayal. When I first started with it, I really wanted to dislike it, not intensely, just because. Who can compare Topaz Studio free and pro features vs Adjust, InFocus, DeNoise, Details and other well-known stuff?
